Mermaids // Bernadette Newberry, Cincinnati & Dayton OH Photographer

Here’s a shoot that I’ve been wanting to do since last Summer, and didn’t get around to it until this August. 🙂 I took a few of my favorite mermaid-esque models, along with my creative partner-in-crime Sarah Crain, to the beach at Hueston Woods. We layered a literal ton of shiny tulle and netting on our models to create a beautiful tail.

I was extremely excited to get a beauty dish for my strobe, a light modifier that I had never used before. This was my first time using a strobe outdoors, as well. I have to say that I absolutely love the effect, it made lugging the strobe around (without an assistant) completely worth it. The theme for this shoot was more of a color scheme… watercolors 🙂

The lovely Colleen, a.k.a. “Mae Risque,” was in town from North Carolina for a friend’s wedding. She decided to work a session with me into her schedule, to further develop her modeling portfolio. Colleen came to this shoot with a fantastical vision and loads of talent, so needless to say I had a great time with this session!

This July, I was honored to photograph Beth and Kyle’s special day at the Kingsgate Marriott in Cincinnati, OH. They were such a laid-back, fun couple and I had a blast capturing their wedding! I’m so happy for you both, Beth and Kyle!

A few months ago, I photographed the gorgeous Shannon Markesbery of Heyman Talent Agency at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. I wanted to do a shoot inspired by Gibson Girl beauty. The talented Sarah Crain did hair and makeup for this shoot. This set was featured by Lucy’s Magazine as a webitorial as well!

One day, when looking through a forgotten closet, I came across a few old floral curtains that had never been used. I decided to stretch one into a “backdrop” and build a vintage beauty shoot around it. Our idea was to make the shoot have a romantic feel, with braids, and using natural light.

I can’t say enough about how much I adored this wedding. This awesome couple got married at a cousin’s farm in Oxford, OH. Everything was so beautiful, rustic, and personalized and it was a joy to photograph. It doesn’t hurt that the bride and groom are a gorgeous couple! 🙂
